A Timeless Green & White Wedding at Gibson Island Club with a Meaningful “Something Green”
There are weddings that are beautiful from the very first glance. And then there are weddings that stay with you because of the meaning woven quietly into every detail. Isabel and Brandon’s celebration at Gibson Island Club was both.
Some love stories begin with a grand gesture. Isabel and Brandon's relationship began at a high school football game on Thanksgiving Day, freshman year. They started as friends, talking every day, practically inseparable from the very beginning. When Isabel’s relationship ended, Brandon didn’t wait long. They were only fifteen, but there was something between them that already felt certain.
After high school, both headed to the University of Delaware, where they made the mutual decision to step back from the relationship and find their own footing. But Brandon had a way of turning up on the path to Isabel’s classes, and when he asked her to dinner over winter break, she said yes. The rest, as they say, is history.
What makes their bond so quietly remarkable goes deeper than a sweet origin story. When they were young, both Isabel and Brandon experienced profound loss. Isabel’s older sister Molly passed away suddenly, just two weeks before Isabel’s seventh birthday. Brandon lost his father, Mark, to cancer when he was eight. Grief has a way of shaping people, and for both of them, it meant growing up faster than most. When they found each other, they found someone who truly understood.
“When we met, we were able to understand each other and support one another in ways that most of our peers couldn’t,” Isabel reflected. “This bonded us and ultimately formed such a strong foundation between us. I always like to think of Molly and Mark as our guardian angels and that they helped us find our way to each other.”
The proposal was perfectly, wonderfully them. It was late January, freezing cold, and Isabel had just returned from a baby shower looking put-together and her makeup fresh. Brandon suggested a walk with their dog, Maverick, to the trail. He nudged her out the door before she could change. She wishes now she hadn’t taken her makeup off. At their favorite spot, where Maverick likes to swim, she turned around and Brandon was on one knee. He had enlisted their friend Connor to hide in the bushes with a camera, and Connor’s older sister Brooke came along to make sure he’d actually get the shot. The photos from that frozen afternoon are some of Isabel’s favorites they’ve ever taken.
From the beginning, Isabel knew exactly how she wanted the day to feel: timeless, elegant, joyful, and deeply personal. The setting offered everything they had dreamed of, sweeping waterfront views, manicured grounds, and a classic white clubhouse set against shimmering blue water. But what made the weekend truly unforgettable wasn’t simply the beauty of the place. It was the heart behind it all.
“I have been dreaming of my wedding for as long as I can remember,” Isabel shared. Once she and Brandon were engaged, planning began almost immediately, and every choice was intentional. Especially the florals, which became one of the defining elements of the day. Working alongside Rick and his team at Amaryllis Floral & Event Design, Isabel brought to life a vision built around texture, movement, and the fresh elegance of green and white blooms.
The ceremony aisle was particularly meaningful, lined with towering snapdragons, one of Isabel’s favorite flowers, evoking the feeling of walking through a garden in full bloom. Reception tables were layered with mono-floral arrangements of ranunculus and tulips, their delicate white petals balanced by vibrant green stems. The palette felt crisp and classic. But the reason behind it made it infinitely more poignant.
Green was chosen in honor of Molly. “The reason our wedding colors were green and white was because my older sister Molly’s favourite colour was green,” Isabel said. “Anytime we do something in honor of her, it always involves green.”
So instead of a traditional something blue, Isabel carried something green throughout the weekend. A green purse, an emerald ring, Bridesmaids dressed in soft shades of sage and moss. Small, quiet touches that together felt less like details and more like acts of love.
“All these touches truly made it feel so special, like we incorporated her in every way we could.”
That sense of presence was felt throughout the entire day. Nothing felt overdesigned or performative. Every part of the wedding reflected who Isabel and Brandon are, and the people who matter most to them.
For Brandon, music was everything. He and Isabel wanted a band that would keep the dance floor alive all night, and Millennium Band delivered exactly that. The reception became the kind of party guests never want to leave: energetic, joyful, and full of the kind of dancing that only happens when everyone you love is gathered in one room.
“We had the time of our lives dancing with all our loved ones,” Isabel said. “It was truly perfection.”
And in so many ways, it was. Not because every flower was perfectly placed or every detail flawlessly executed, though they were, but because the day held space for both celebration and remembrance. A wedding rooted not only in beauty but also in family, memory, and love that never fades.
