A Joyful, Color-Filled Waterfront Wedding on Gibson Island with Dancing Lady Orchids
Catherine and Joey's celebration on Gibson Island, Maryland was a joyful, color-filled gathering set in a place deeply meaningful to Catherine and her family. Having grown up nearby, and with her parents now retired on the island, it felt like the perfect setting for the couple to begin this next chapter together.
The day was originally planned as a waterfront ceremony with guests gathered along the sandy shoreline. But when rain rolled in, the couple gracefully moved their vows indoors to the Gibson Island Club. Showers continued on and off throughout the evening, yet the weather only added to the romance of the day. Under the canopies, guests gathered close, laughter flowed easily, and the dance floor stayed full as everyone celebrated well into the night.
One of the most joyful moments of the day came as Catherine arrived for the ceremony with her father in her red Bug convertible. The vibrant car made for a playful and memorable entrance, setting the tone for the colorful celebration that was to follow.
Catherine was the picture of modern elegance in a custom Vera Wang gown. In a strikingly simple yet impactful choice, she carried a bouquet composed entirely of yellow dancing-lady orchids, an artful statement that brought a vibrant note of color to her bridal look. Her bridesmaids echoed the joyful palette in mismatched dresses in shades of coral, peach, and blue. Each carried a smaller bouquet of blooms in complementary tones, creating a cohesive yet effortlessly relaxed aesthetic.
The couple's beautiful dog Fig was a key figure in the wedding, providing not only joyful poses with Catherine and Joey but also the creative cocktail napkins featuring his image that told the guests the drinks were on him!
Later in the evening, those bouquets found a second life as part of the reception décor. Arranged around the base of the couple’s wedding cake, they framed the display with the same painterly palette that had walked down the aisle earlier in the day.
For Catherine, the cake held special meaning. As a professional baker, she chose to take on one final creative task herself, making and decorating her own wedding cake. The result was a beautiful and deeply personal centerpiece that perfectly reflected the playful spirit of the celebration. T
Despite the rain, Catherine and Joey’s Gibson Island wedding unfolded with warmth, color, and effortless joy. An unforgettable celebration filled with thoughtful details, vibrant florals, and the unmistakable sweetness of a cake made by the bride herself.
