Mia and David’s Cliff Top Wedding in Bali
Oh my heavens, we have a STUNNER of a wedding for you today! Dripping in gorgeous swoon-worthy and steal-able designs, Mia and David's clifftop destination wedding in Bali is truly like fairytale. Of course we fell in love with the dusty blue color palette, the painterly film photographs by Angga Permian & Voir Pictures, and the epic wardrobe change including Bisou Attire and Agvsta by Bethania. Bride Mia is here today to describe everything in detail so we won't hold you up any longer ....
From the lovely bride, Mia: "It all began one Sunday evening in mid January 2014 where David and I met for the first time at a trendy Asian fusion restaurant. Both of us didn’t know what to expect from a first date setup by our moms, who were college friends. A month later we embarked on a 2-years journey getting to know each other that led to a cool summer night in 2016. With the help of his close friend and best man to be, David staged a double date at the restaurant where we first met. The lights in the restaurant went out and by the time it went back on, David was on one knee holding a ring in front of me. The next day we wasted no time and started planning for our wedding. We started by first defining intimate, whimsical, and natural as our main wedding themes.
During venue hunting, we came across and fell in love with The Edge Uluwatu located on Bali’s South Coast. Clinging to the side of a 500-foot cliff, the opulent resort offered unobstructed and breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. Its secluded location and the exclusivity of having the entire resort for just our wedding guests also offered the intimate atmosphere we sought. Next, we came up with a lush décor theme projecting a natural ambiance coupled with the whimsical dusty blue and blush colors that meshed seamlessly with the ocean view and décor."
"Fast forward to the weekend of our nuptials, we had a sunset photo shoot with the bridal party at Tegal Wangi beach the evening before our wedding day to help everyone break the ice. The outfit color was deliberately pastel for a nice blend with the golden hour at the beach. My bridesmaids wore wavy textured dresses with each having slightly different cuts and color tones while David’s groomsmen wore matching dusty blue linen pants. Treading the wet sand barefoot with the waves occasionally crashing on us made for a messy but fun filled evening.
We woke up the next morning on our wedding day to the scene of wild monkeys playing at the ceremony deck being chased by our butler. Soon I was in my bridal robe having my makeup done while David and the groomsmen were having a poolside shoot. The afternoon arrived without a moment’s notice as I found myself waiting for David outside the villa for our first look. I wore a mermaid cut wedding gown with simple leaves pattern made by @agvstabybethania complemented by a golden tree-branches-patterned hairpiece from @maggiewustudio. David soon arrived in a dusty blue bespoke suit with “barchetta” cut chest pocket and patch pockets commonly found in Neapolitan jackets designed by @agusslim. He also wore matching navy blue polka-dot bow tie and pocket square to round up a “Sprezzatura” Italian look. I was delighted to see my bouquet that David brought. It turned out as dreamy as I imagined thanks to @mimsybotanical who perfectly arranged the blush and lush green, with a drop of dusty blue from the eryngium flowers. A flowy knee length dusty blue silk ribbon from @silkandwillow and blush silk ribbon from @froufrouchic completed the naturally effortless and romantic floral arrangement.
For the ceremony, we wanted a romantic classy feel without anything overdone. We ended up exchanging our vows under an arch wrapped by blush silk drapery decorated with foliage and minimal flowers. The aisle is covered with matching blush color petals. At the end of the ceremony, we were pleased to find how the décor and colors came out in harmony with the pigeons and balloons flown into the clear blue sky and also the rose petals tossed by the guests. The cliff and ocean backdrop topped off what turned out to be a timeless ceremony.
Pictures with guests after the ceremony and evening cocktails passed by like a blur and before we knew it dinner reception was upon us. As we walked towards our bridal table, the guests lit up our path with firework sticks. The garden style flower arrangement and dusty blue runners on both the bridal and guests tables all came together in the most whimsical manner thanks to @cosaprojects. To add both a personal and artistic touch, we had guests’ names written on seashells instead of typical wedding name cards befitting a venue overlooking the sea."
"In hindsight, what I can share with you future bride and groom is that having fun and being able to enjoy every moment as it’s happening is far more important than anything else. We were very selective in choosing the caterer for our wedding but definitely didn’t foresee our guests unanimously stating the delicious feast as one of the three things from our wedding that left the strongest impression on them. A first dance that started with the 1960s jazzy tunes from Sinatra’s “Fly Me To The Moon” but shifted midway to the Reggaeton beats of “Despacito” certainly helped to put icing on the cake of a fun filled wedding reception atmosphere. We are certainly blessed to have two great photographers in @anggapermanaphoto and @voirpictures along with our videographer @thebroompictures capture all the timeless moments during our wedding. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of choosing the right photographers/videographers whose work you resonate with. Everytime I look at our wedding photos, not only does it bring back the beautiful memories, but I fall in love with it again every single time!
Last but not least, no matter how your wedding turns out, don’t forget to count your blessings. We certainly didn’t forget to count ours, as a volcano erupted in Bali shortly after our wedding leading to the cancellation of many weddings on the Island of the Gods. Luckily for us, the Gods were kind enough to wait for us to happily tie the knot first on their beautiful island before all this happened."
