Charming, Romantic Honeymoon Guide for Cotswolds UK
Another week, another incredibly charming honeymoon location! Today we're dreaming of the Cotswolds in the UK - a charming small English community that is as cozy at it gets. Thanks to lovely Alicia Lacey, we've got the details on the best spots...
From Alicia Lacey: "London was one of the first places I visited in Europe when traveling abroad several years ago. As a novice traveler at the time, it seemed like an "easy" place to visit as the language would be familiar so I would have at least one less barrier to overcome. Many years and different countries later, that trip to London was still one of my all time favorites and I knew I wanted to return.
Anytime my husband and I make the journey abroad, we always make it a priority to see at least one new place. There is so much of this beautiful world to discover that we want to ensure we're taking in as much as we can! That is how our trip to the Cotswolds came to fruition. We were looking for somewhere outside of London that we could spend a few days relaxing and enjoying a slower pace of life; somewhere that was the complete opposite of the big city and the charming Cotswolds fit that to a "T".
Upon arriving in London, we rented a small car and headed out to the country. As the paved roads turned to dirt and gravel, we knew we had arrived in the quaint town of Bibury where we rented space in a small detached cottage on Air B&B (here). It's aged stone and slate roof was perfectly reminiscent of everything we came to expect from this lovely area. The interior boasted a minimalism approach that covered all of the essentials from an intimate loft sleeping area to a snug kitchen and living area. It truly was exactly what we needed.
Our on first day in Bibury, we enjoyed wandering the town and stopping to admire each and every home. The most famous area is probably Arlington Row, a private court of connected homes that seem almost too pretty to be real. We later dined a la fresco outside of The Swan Hotel's pub where we became acquainted with some of the locals.
The following day we took a short drive to The Barnsley House just outside of Bibury to explore their gardens. Despite the crisp autumn air of October, we were delighted to see to the foliage was still in full bloom. We headed inside to further our days of R&R with a massage treatment at their renowned spa. Though too cold to use the outdoor pool, it looked like a space that would be splendid on a sunny summer day! We finished the afternoon by stopping in Castle Combe, one of the most photographed villages in all of the Cotswolds. One peek at their idyllic town sitting across a river and it's no wonder why!
If you're looking for a day trip while relaxing in the Cotswolds, I would highly recommend stopping by Oxford. It has all the charm of the country with the amenities of a bigger city thanks in large part to the University. The school itself is a sight to be seen and the Bodleian Library would certainly be one tour not to miss. We also enjoyed walking up the Tower to get a birds eye view of much of the city. We stopped at The Rose to indulge in afternoon tea, complete with biscuits, cream, and our choice of dessert!
The Cotswolds is truly is a picture-perfect location that makes one feel as if they've stepped into another time. Next time you find yourself looking to visit England, I'd highly recommend it as a destination to unwind outside the hustle and bustle of London."
