Terracotta and Grey Wedding Inspiration in Umbria

May 06, 2019 | Inspiration

We're starting our week off with an influx of warm, rich tones set in the stunning backdrop of Umbria in Italy. I'm lucky enough to have visited this location of La Badia personally and it truly is the most exquisite venue. With it's crumbling walls and ancient chapel, this editorial from Fine Art Curation photographer Whiskers & Willow Photography alongside wedding designer HauteFetes have showcased this beautiful countryside. Fall florals by Floresie and organic and timeless hair and make up by our fave Fine Art Curation HMUA Beauty by Stacey make this elegant inspiration perfectly contemporary...

From HauteFetes: "Few places in Italy are more dramatically situated than the Umbrian town of Orvieto, which sits atop a cliff of sandstone overlooking the rolling hills of the Umbrian countryside. From the many secret tunnels and hidden passageways to its historical ruins, it is a perfect location for an intimate elopement. Inspired by the crumbling architecture of La Badia di Orvieto, our couple’s story is a testament to the spirit of love and it’s paradoxical combination of strength and fragility. This paradox sets up a series of contrasts that we explore – light vs shadow; strong vs delicate; youth vs age; manmade vs natural. We begin our journey in the intimate chapel, the perfect setting for the vows that begin the couple’s life as husband and wife. Once married, our couple shares quiet moments among the olive trees of the ancient castle grounds. An elegant table layered with texture – linen, silk, pewter, terracotta – provides the backdrop for the intimate wedding feast for 20 guests. To the conservative mauve and olive hues, shades of ochre, burnt umber and apricot take cues from the Umbrian hillside adding bursts of brilliant Autumn-like color to our palette, with touches of ebony and blue-greys. A distinct moodiness and romance is reinforced by a recent sprinkling of rain. Youthful movement contrasts ancient stoicism – a softly draped long-sleeved gown provides contrast to the hard architectural lines of the Badia, while lush florals draw from the color of the setting sun on the surrounding walls, aged by the passage of time. Natural hair and makeup reinforce the earthy, organic feel of the romantic backdrop created by the ancient town. This shoot has such a special place in my heart coupled with memories of a wonderful few days in Italy with an equally wonderful creative team."
