Getting married in Las Vegas? Here’s what you need to know

Mar 31, 2023 | Planning

Las Vegas is often the first place that springs to mind when you think of eloping but it is so much more than a shotgun wedding destination. Sin City is actually a fantastic place for an elegant destination wedding when you look away from all the lights and gambling of The Strip. If you're not local, it might be hard to know where to start planning a beautiful Las Vegas wedding so we asked Nevada wedding photographer and Fine Art Curation member Lianna Marie to share everything you need to know about getting married in Las Vegas. Read on for her top tips (and there's no Elvis impersonator in sight!)...

1. Hire a great wedding planner

When planning your wedding, a wedding planner will always be the first thing I would suggest. Whether you are from Las Vegas or not, your wedding planner will be your saving grace when it comes to helping you make decisions for the wedding day. They will guide you through navigating and finding your vendors, creating a design for your wedding, all site visits and communication, and also create a plan for your wedding day.

2. Look at venues away from the Strip

Las Vegas has lots of gorgeous venues that aren’t on the Las Vegas Strip. We have some beautiful hidden gems around the city with gorgeous views and luxurious feels. Here are some of my favourites, all of which are unique and tranquil, without thousands of tourists and a long walk across the property.

  • Las Vegas Country Club
  • Green Valley Ranch
  • Cascata Golf Course
  • Dragon Ridge
  • Red Rock Casino

3. Get a hotel or nice area to get ready in

Many of Las Vegas wedding venues are also golf courses and they have a clubhouse for their bridal suite. Some of them look like locker rooms and aren’t the prettiest or roomiest space to get ready in. So suggest booking a hotel room that’s close by at one of the main off the strip hotels around the city to have a nice space to get ready in, this will also allow for about 20% more getting ready images that will beautifully complement the rest of your wedding photos.

4. Have a back up plan for weather

Rather than Sin City, a more appropriate nickname for Las Vegas is the windy city for most of the year. High winds often hit this desert city and having a backup plan for your outdoor wedding here is a must. This also ties into another reason for having a wedding planner, to help you navigate this back up plan with your venue. Most wedding venues have back-up options for an indoor area for your ceremony or reception when needed, and it’s always important to discuss these options from the outset.
