8 wedding day essentials you might not have thought of
By the time your wedding week rolls around, all the big essentials are hopefully checked off the to-do list and you can relax in the knowledge that everything will come together beautifully on the day. However, there are a host of small details that are useful to have on the day to help everything run smoothly, and avoid a last minute dash to a shop or ATM. Want to know what they are? We asked east cost wedding photographer and Fine Art Curation member Danielle Defayette to share the 8 wedding day essentials you might not have thought of.
1. Cash for tipping
Between your waitstaff, your DJ and anyone doing any heavy lifting to help set up your ceremony or reception, there's likely to be lots of people you'd like to tip on your wedding day. Bring cash and envelopes to avoid loose bills and having to write checks on the spot. Delegate the job to a parent, groomsman or bridesmaid.
2. Chargers
Even if you're having an unplugged ceremony or swearing off your cell phone for the night, you'll still want to have a phone around to keep in touch with members of family and the wedding party, plus vendors during the day, or in case of emergency. If you don't want to be troubled with calls and texts, designate an organised bridesmaid and groomsmen to be the key contacts.
3. Protection from the elements
If you're planning an outdoor wedding ceremony, be prepared with necessities to keep your guests comfortable, whatever the weather. Depending on the climate, we're talking things like sunscreen, bug spray, fans and parasols, or blankets and umbrellas.
4. Dog chaperone
If your precious pooches are attending your wedding, consider hiring a pet sitter or chaperone to look after them so you're not scooping poop in your wedding gown. Dogs will require exercise, food and to be taken home at some point, and a chaperone will relieve you of the responsibility so you can enjoy the day safe in the knowledge that they are well taken care of.
5. Medicines
A long emotional day of standing around, crying, eating, drinking and dancing can take its toll on on your and your guests. Don't let headaches or digestive issues spoil the day and be prepared with a stash of pain relief and antacids.
6. Change of Shoes
While you may have spent a small fortune on your dream wedding shoes, bought specifically to match your gown, you'll never regret bringing a pair of flat or low-heeled spares for later in the evening. Your elegant wedding heels may start to lose their lustre when you want to let loose on the dance floor, so bring a comfortable pair to slip into in case your feet get sore.
7. Cosmetics
Try as you might, it's hard to avoid tears on your wedding day. Your make-up will likely need a touch up at some point during the day so keep a small bag of basic make-up on hand. Think foundation, concealer, mascara and lipstick, plus a neutral deodorant.
8. For the wedding night
In the excitement of getting ready for the wedding, it's easy to forget the day after so try to set aside time to back a bag. Remember toiletries, a hair brush and your day-after outfit so you can enjoy your first morning coffee as newlyweds feeling fresh.
