Dark & Moody Wedding Inspiration for Halloween
We just couldn't let Halloween go by without seeing some moody, dark and evocative wedding inspiration! The lovely Divya Pande together with stylist/planner Elizabeth Miller created a sensual, painterly editorial inspired by Dutch Vanitas paintings...
From Divya Pande: "The color palate was inspired by deep, sensual autumnal colors. We used dark purples and oxblood reds that paired with deep browns and blacks juxtaposed with soft greys. The flowers themselves really led the palate as the everything centered around the black dahlias. The moss is reminiscent of the changing season which reminded us of the autumn harvest and led to the introduction of figs and pomegranates. The styling was inspired by the contrast of dark of light in Dutch Vanitas paintings. I wanted to explore similar motifs and as we incorporated more Spanish moss, things gently drifted towards a more Spanish theme. After examining the works of Diego Valazquez, who was made famous painting Spanish monarchs during the golden age, we decided to include more textural elements such as silks and lace which can be found in many of his paintings. One of his more famous paintings of the princes Margaret Theresa, titled Las Meninas (1656) features intricate silk dresses adorned with flowers. To create a sense of modernity while still bringing abundant texture to the shoot, we created a hush headpiece with bark, florals, and foliage that resembled feathers.
For wardrobe, we wanted to combine the styles of Morticia Addams and Frida Kahlo to create something that felt both dark and ethereal, lush and romantic."
