3 Ways to Keep your Boudoir Timeless

Oct 26, 2018 | Bridal Style

One of the biggest questions we get asked from brides is how to keep boudoir looking classy and timeless. There are a few key pointers to help you plan your boudoir session but always reach out to your photographer in advance if you have any questions - they're there to help and can always give you examples of their boudoir work too.

CHOOSE A TIMELESS SPACE

Whilst we know it's not always easy to shoot a boudoir session outdoors (hello audience!) like this epic desert location from photographer Lizelle Goussard and stylist The Purple Chair, remember to choose a location with a neutral backdrop and LOTS of natural light. Big windows are your friend and even more so, film photography! That grainy black and white film look is soooo romantic! Having lived in Dubai for longer than a decade, it was certainly time for photographer Lizelle Goussard to take advantage of the stunning desert for this non-conventional bridal boudoir shoot.

KEEP YOUR HAIR & MAKE UP MINIMAL

The inspiration behind this shoot was to highlight the sheer simplicity, grace and beauty of the desert, hence the styling and Hair and Make up is kept minimal. You want to look like the best version of YOU - not like you're attending a black tie event. Less is more. This bride embodied the essence of femininity by wearing two gowns by Marlize Meeding. The Chantilly lace & tulle robe and the sheer applique dress was custom made for the shoot. Her natural beauty was complimented with minimal make up and soft natural waves.

YOU DON'T NEED LOTS (OR ANY) OF STYLING PROPS

Let your landscape or location do the talking and let the photographer guide you towards the light. Having great portraiture is far more important and timeless than having lots of props. Props and objects will only date your session and you want these images to last a lifetime. The subtle shapes of the sand dunes was accentuated by simple brass accent pieces, furniture and exotic dried flowers, which kept it simple and timeless. The gorgeous soft, golden light of sunset brought life to the beautiful hues of the florals and the desert, and created a simply breathtaking setting.
