Modern Engagement Session Vibes
Your engagement session - whether you're creating imagery for your wedding stationery or just getting used to the camera, we highly suggest you do one. But where do you start? If you're looking to create a more modern and contemporary vibe for your engagement photos (think portrait-worthy shots that you'll frame and hang around your home), then here's a short guide for you with some beautiful captures from photographer Mon Soleil...
Think block colors (no pattern) and clean lines. Textures look great on camera so don't be afraid to add that 3D element. Be complementary with your partner's color palette too and for the ultra modern look, try monochromatic style. Don't be afraid to switch outfits during the session too and have a more bold look as well as a casual look.
If you want an ultra modern engagement session, think carefully about where you and your photographer will shoot it. You'll need to think about negative space, lines and no distractions in the background. Your photographer will be able to help with location suggestions. If you have the budget, consider traveling to another country that lends itself to a clean backdrop (like the Utah Salt Flats or the Dubai desert) and make a trip out of it!
Remember that if you have hired a photographer that usually shoots a more romantic style, this will be their brand aesthetic and they may not produce the exact ultra bold look you're looking for. Create some visuals using Pinterest or similar and send it to them. Ask them if they think it is something they would enjoy to shoot! You might find it excites them to shoot something they don't usually get to!
It's not just your photographer you'll need to look into hiring. You might want to budget for a Hair & Make Up Artist, clothing rentals (like Rent The Runway), venue costs (depending on where you shoot), and even a Stylist. Try and shoot your engagement session during the week on a weekday, if possible, for reduced fees from suppliers.
