If sipping an aperitif on a sun-dappled terrace overlooking a sparkling lake sounds like a little slice of heaven, Lake Como could be the perfect honeymoon destination for you. This upscale resort area, 25 miles north of Milan, has much to offer couples looking for a true taste of Italy, with historic villas, breathtaking views and incredible cuisine.

Set at the base of the Alps in the Lombardy region, it really is the quintessential picture perfect location for a romantic newlywed get-a-away. So what can you do there? We asked Lake Como wedding photographer and Fine Art Curation member, Fabrizio Viganó, to share his must-see sites for your Lake Como honeymoon.

Villa del Balbianello Pin it

Villa del Balbianello

Villa del Balbianello is one of Lake Como’s most picturesque venues. Since it is located on a wooded promontory that plunges into Lake Como, the best way to reach the villa is by boat, which adds to the experience exclusivity. From the famous Loggia, the view is breathtaking: you can look up to Bellagio and Varenna, the beautiful villages on the other side of the lake.

Bellagio Lake Como Pin it

Your honeymoon on Lake Como is not complete without a visit to its pearl, Bellagio. Located halfway between the two southernmost branches of the lake, Bellagio is famous worldwide for its beautiful villas overlooking the water. The tiny streets of Bellagio are so pretty that a simple walk is worth the visit. The old town center has one main road, which takes you to the tip of the village past dozens of boutiques where you can find local food, leather goods, clothing, perfumes, and much more.

Lake Como Boat trip Pin it

Boat trip

Make your honeymoon on Lake Como truly unique and unforgettable by sailing the lake aboard the luxurious Riva boats with your own personal driver. Enjoy prosecco at sunset as you explore the tranquil waters and picturesque scenery. It's the best way to remember your days on Lake Como forever!

Nesso Lake Como Pin it

Literally split in half by its famous gorge, Nesso is a charming village sitting on the banks of Lake Como. Nesso is smaller than the nearby and more popular Bellagio. Still, it’s an absolute heaven for those who seek peace, tranquility, and all the regenerating aspects of slow living.

Villa Melzi Lake Como Pin it

Villa Melzi

Villa Melzi d’Eril was built between 1808 and 1810 in Bellagio. In the garden, under the trees, along the shore and at the intersections of the paths, are Egyptian sculptures and Roman statues which add to the romantic atmosphere of the garden. The Japanese pond with water lilies is fascinating, surrounded by Japanese maple trees and cedar trees. In April and May, you can admire the blooming azaleas and rhododendrons.

Villa Monastero Lake Como Pin it

Villa Monastero

Located in Varenna, Villa Monastero is one of the most exciting examples of eclecticism around Lake Como. The decorative and functional elements added during the renovations of the 19th and 20th centuries didn’t change the previous look of the building substantially, resulting in beautiful villa that's typical of the area and a place not to miss.

Pescallo lake como Pin it

The pretty village of Pescallo, located southeast of the Bellagio promontory, overlooks the Lecco branch of Lake Como. You will be enchanted by this ancient little hamlet nestled between the green and the lake, rich in romantic spots with incredible views that are perfect for honeymoon selfies.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo Lake Como Pin it

Grand Hotel Tremezzo

It’s a stereotype, but it’s true: in Italy, there is simply nothing more important than food. The Grand Hotel Tremezzo showcases the very best of the Italian art of mangiare in five distinct bars and restaurants. From formal to relaxed, chic to fun, you’ll always find something to suit your mood.

Tradition meets modernity, taste meets emotion, and creativity meets avant-garde. As you sit on the most elegant terrace on the Lake, let your palate taste an unforgettable romantic dinner, as the sun slowly sets over the Grigne mountains and sparkling lake waters.

Varenna, Lake Como village Pin it

Looking for a spot where time stands still? Varenna is a picturesque village, located on the eastern shore of Lake Como. It is an essential stop for anyone wishing to visit one of the most traditional and quiet towns of the lake.
