1. Start a skin regime in advance

It's never too early to start preparing your skin for your wedding and if you have any particular concerns it is worth seeing a dermatologist up to 12 months in advance. They will assess the current state of your complexion and help you devise a strategy to achieve smooth, even and blemish-free skin by your wedding day.

Consider retinol treatment

Derived from vitamin A, retinol increases cell turnover, unclogs pores, boosts collagen, and helps diminish hyperpigmentation. There is also a prescription version - known as retinoid - that is even more powerful. It is important to note that these powerful products can cause redness and peeling when you first start using them so it's important to build up the frequency over a period of weeks and certainly don't try it for the first time in the week before your wedding.

Schedule regular facials

Find a reputable aesthetician in your area to help keep your skin in excellent condition. A good facial will always start with a consultation to address any specific concerns so the aesthetician can tailor the treatment to your exact needs. Monthly or six-weekly facials running up to your wedding will not only improve the condition of you skin but also give you some much needed self-care and time to relax at this stressful time.

4. Exfoliate and brighten

Regular exfoliation is key to removing dead skin cells and achieving a radiant complexion, followed with a brightening serum to give you the best lit-from-within glow on your wedding day. Start exfoliating weekly then increase to twice weekly once your skin has acclimatised.

5. Detox your diet

You already know that wine and fried foods are no good for your complexion, and now is the time to put that knowledge into practice. Fill your diet with plants and cut down on alcohol as much as you can, especially during the few months leading up to your wedding. Get juicing as green juice in particular is great for detoxifying, and it contains vital minerals that help stimulate the lymphatic system and reduce puffiness.
