May 10, 2019 | Inspiration

Your bridal portraits or your wedding portrait session is the ideal time to relax into getting your images taken by your photographer but we know that any portrait session can be full of questions too. What is it all about? Why do we need a portrait session? What should we be taking pictures of? Don't fear - Wedding Sparrow is here to help...

Your wedding portrait session (or in fact any anniversary session, engagement or bridal session) is a chance to take some more relaxed images of you looking your best that you can keep for generations to come. It can be crazy hectic on your wedding day plus there are external factors like weather, late running of events or location restraints that might not enable you to have your portraits taken in a calm manner. You might want some beautiful, timeless imagery of you and your loved one at the peak of your wedding excitement to look back on, so your portrait session is the perfect time. So, what do you need to consider?

ACCESSORIES

To enable the photographer to capture a wide range of shots for your session, consider getting some shots of your accessories. Whether it's shoes like these Bella Belle Shoes below or your engagement or wedding rings, show off your style during your session.

MOMENTS

Your session isn't just a 'stand still and say cheese' event. If you have a great photographer, they'll guide you through moments that will enable you and your new hubby to look as natural as possible - however uncomfortable you might feel in front of a photographer. They'll be able to capture movement, graceful and editorial crops, and emotions from you as a newlywed couple.

FLORALS

To add to the 'story' of your session and make the images flow, the photographer will capture some images and texture shots of your bouquet and any florals you might have. If it's not your wedding day and you're having a session before or after, consider having a bouquet made. Perhaps you could schedule a run through of your actual bouquet from the floral designer for the same day and get it photographed too!

PAPER / DETAILS

Chances are you'll already have your wedding stationery and paper goods all finished and sent out to your guests if you're having a portrait session before the wedding day. Take the paper along with you and your stylist or your photographer will be able to arrange a flat lay of it to get some shots.

From photographer Mallory Dawn Photography: "This editorial was inspired by the beauty and texture of lilac. We wanted to keep that theme present throughout the entire day - from the paper goods to the delicate appliques on the Calla Blanche gown. Unoaked did an outstanding job making sure each individual component came together effortlessly to fit our overall vision. Melissa, the talent behind EPOCHDES, created a one of a kind invitation suite with a hand-drawn sketch paired with some texture rich paper. The Look By Lo kept the makeup look simple and fresh which really highlighted the beauty of our bride. Our Calla Blanche gown was the perfect choice for this inspirational shoot because of the delicate floral detailing on the tulle. Stacey Alyson Artistry really showcased our bride’s natural hair with some loose curls, keeping with the whimsical and romantic theme. Our florals were definitely very important for this editorial because of the lilac infusion. Plain Jane Posy created a beautiful bouquet, which had an abundance of lilac and other pretty neutral tones."
