If ever in doubt over your bridal hairstyle, know that you can never go wrong with a low bun or chignon. Elegant and timeless, this updo will always look chic and is the most requested wedding hairstyle for 2023. We also love how versatile the classic low bun is. Whatever your hair type and wedding style, there's a chignon for you! We spoke to international hair stylist and Fine Art Curation member Frank Giacone to find out how to achieve the perfect low bun or chignon.

"For starters, it's crucial to put yourself in the hands of a professional hairstylist and have a trial prior to the wedding," explains Frank. "This is so important to build a great bond with your stylist before the big day, and for them to understand your hair type. If a trial isn't possible, when you're getting married abroad for example, get on a video call with your stylist. This is particularly important if you consider your hair to be difficult, such as super frizzy, straight or thick, as they will advise you on a style that will last well and look amazing throughout your wedding day."

Frizzy curly hair

Starting with a great blow out is always a good idea, but it is particularly important for hair prone to frizz. Now proceed with a hot iron and apply top quality anti-frizz products, before styling the hair into the desired low bun or chignon.

Super straight, limp or thinning hair

With these hair types, we recommend styling products that thicken the hair and add extra volume to the roots. Chic buns are actually great for this type of hair, it just takes a little creativity from your stylist and some well-executed tips and tricks. Gorgeous dainty hairpieces or a beautifully embellished headband can make up for any sparseness or lack of volume.

Normal to thick hair

Even if you have normal 'easy' hair, it’s still very important to prep your hair and use the right hair products and tools. Using just a small amount of styling product on the mid length and ends is key, to avoid the hair becoming heavy and greasy. Then you can have your pick of up-dos, like a sleek minimal bun or more tousled natural chignon with face framing tendrils.
