Travel Guide for Beautiful Austria
When we think of Austria, we immediately think of The Sound of Music! Anyone else?! From the beautiful architecture to the rolling hills, this beautiful place has always been on our bucket list and would make a perfect pit stop on your European honeymoon getaway. Luckily the lovely Audra Wrisley has shared with us this lovely photographs and some of her travel tips! Thanks, Audra...
From Audra Wrisley: "I love shooting weddings, but I was extremely excited to attend one this past spring when my husband and I traveled to Bavaria for a fun-filled celebration of a good friend. The wedding took place right next to the Austrian border, so we decided to rent a car and make the two hour drive east to the beautiful city of Salzburg. Without much of a plan, we walked around the city and stumbled upon the stunning Mirabell Palace with its beautiful gardens, we strolled along the winding Salzach river, and were in awe of the incredible views overlooking the city from the Hohensalzburg Fortress. We ended the day at Cafe Wernbacher, one of the coolest bars in town named, for some typical Austrian fare and well deserved drinks!
To recover from all the dancing at the wedding and walking around Salzburg, we looked for a nearby place to relax, and found what turned out to be one of our all time favorite Airbnb’s (with heated pool and sauna!) just outside the town of Mondsee. Named after the pristine lake it’s located on, it is one of the most picturesque villages we’ve ever seen. Dating back all the way to the Middle Ages, the town is centered around the Saint Michael’s Basilica, that you may recognize from the iconic wedding scenes in the Sound Of Music! With plenty of options to choose, we enjoyed a lovely Austrian dinner at Schlossbrau, situated inside Austria’s oldest Benedictine monastery. We spent several days in this area, enjoying the sun and impeccable scenery the area had to offer. The landscape here is truly mesmerizing: the traditional farmhouses blending perfectly with its surroundings, and air is so clean you can see for miles.
I’m still in awe of the incredible color palette of teals, blues, greens and purples, and I loved capturing all these scenes on film. I still daydream frequently about this little piece of paradise, and can’t wait to return sometime in the future!"
