Brynne and Scott’s Rustic Nautical Wedding at Belle Mer
Today's real wedding has a beautifully designed rustic feel, along with a nod to the nautical Newport, Rhode Island. Brynne and Scott both hail from bigger cities and reside together in New York city, so an escape to sweet little vacation town Newport felt just right for their big day. We adore the classic ivory blooms by florist Greenlion and the light-filled images by Rebecca Arthurs. If you're considering a nautical theme to your wedding, done in a subtle and classic way, take notes!
From Brynne, the Bride: "Scott proposed while on a weekend summer getaway at Glenmere Mansion, a breathtaking Tuscan-inspired estate in the Hudson Valley. I grew up in New York City and Scott grew up in Massachusetts, so Newport, RI was the perfect central seaside location for us to plan a mini-destination wedding weekend for our friends and family. Living in New York City, we wanted a wedding venue that was away from the everyday hustle and bustle of big city life, but still elegant and glamorous. Belle Mer, with its clean white canvas, was the perfect venue to showcase our unique styles and personalities. We envisioned the perfect blend of vintage romance with hints of a more classic style that would stand the test of time, and although Newport is considered a nautical destination, we mixed the beautiful nautical setting with rustic designs and accents. We chose a palette of neutral tones (blush, champagne, cream and ivory) and hints of metallics (rose gold, copper and silver). We worked with our florist to choose flowers in this color palette and had them arranged in a beautifully “undone” natural garden style with greenery sprinkled throughout the bouquets and table arrangements.
With Hurricane Hermine forecast to continue up the eastern seaboard and hit Newport on the same day as our wedding, we were thrilled to wake up to sunny skies that lasted all day long as the storm stalled off the Atlantic coast. The weather could not have been more perfect and we knew that would set the tone for the rest of our wedding day and life together. From the moment I woke up and read Scott’s love letter, to the time spent getting ready with my girls and reminiscing about old times, to Scott’s face as he saw me at our first look, to my walk down the aisle to “Can’t Help Falling in Love” with my father on my arm crying like a little baby, to the moment we said “I Do”, to the time we took after our ceremony alone together to celebrate just the two of us, to our first dance as husband and wife, to singing along to Scott’s band as they sat in for our wedding band and played two lady pop songs at our reception, to dancing the night away with our closest friends and family, it was the wedding day of my dreams, and it was filled with so much love!"
