Audrey and Zak’s Chinese, English Fusion Wedding

Apr 18, 2017 | Weddings

In a sea of pastel colours, elaborate Chinoiserie interiors, and the grandeur of the Claydon House, Audrey and Zak were married among friends and family alike. We initially fell in love with their seamless designs, dreamed up by Liz Linkleter and the couple, which interestingly enough was a mix of both of their styles - below you'll read more by Liz who gives us more insight into their creative careers. Lovely photographer Taylor & Porter always impresses us with her storytelling talents and innate ability to create wonder and build excitement with the image progression. Enjoy this lovely couple's English wedding!

From stylist Liz Linkleter Event Planning & Design: “Audrey and Zak brought a fantastic mix of style, creativity and a great sense of fun to their wedding design – Zak is an English graphic designer, Audrey a Chinese fashion stylist; they live in Shanghai, but returned home to England’s Oxfordshire area where Zak is from to get married. They introduced us to a stunning venue in Claydon House in Buckinghamshire, an 18th century National Trust stately home – a place so beautiful and so opulent that it actually bankrupted the man that first built it back in the mid 1700s. It had a particular resonance for Audrey and Zak as one of the rooms, the Chinese room, is probably the most elaborate Chinoiserie interior surviving in Britain.

When working on the design concept, we wanted to create something elegant and opulent, to work alongside and celebrate the venue’s already very impactful rooms. All the interior walls are painted in pastel tones, so we worked with a pastel palette of soft pinks, yellows and creams, with gold accents. Alongside this timeless and stylish approach, we also added some quirkier, playful details to match the couple’s personalities – giant helium balloons in the party tent, little gold animals holding up the place cards, and nods to one of the couple’s favourite films, Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel, in the tablescape.

The ceremony took place in the pale blue Saloon, with two large and romantic floral urns by the amazing Jo Flowers taking centre stage against the dramatic floor-to-ceiling French windows. Guests then headed onto the West Terrace for drinks and canapes, with live music from the Estilo string quartet. We set up some quirky English outdoor seating complete with parasols, and installed a party and drinks tent on the lawns complete with pastel blue and gold furnishings. Guests then headed inside to the pale yellow North Hall for dinner. We dressed the tables with pale pink chargers, white and gold vintage plates, cut crystal glassware with touches of pink, Jo Flowers soft pastel florals and little Mendls-inspired favours in pink and gold boxes. Following the speeches, guests headed back outside and partied the night away under the marquee and the stars.”
